DUKE OFFICE OF STUDY ABROAD SUMMER WITHDRAWAL AND REFUND POLICY

Students who withdraw their application from a Duke summer program after the April 18, 2008, 'Cancellation of Participation' deadline will be charged a cancellation fee of $1,500 for a one-credit Duke summer program, or $2,000 for a two-credit Duke summer program. The cancellation fee and any non-recoverable charges from the program fee will be posted on the student's bursar’s account.

Enrolled students who withdraw from a Duke summer at any time prior to the start of the summer program will be held liable for any non-recoverable, program-related charges, which will be posted on the student's bursars account. Non-recoverable costs may include, but are not limited to, expenses for both individual and group services. Individual expenses may include, but are not limited to, such items as pre-paid train/airplane tickets or room reservations. Group expenses may include bus rentals, payment to tour guides, etc.

Tuition will be refunded (or if not paid yet, the tuition charges will be dropped from the student's bursar's account).

Students who withdraw after the summer program has begun, but before its scheduled end date, will not receive any refund of the tuition or program fee and will be held responsible for paying these charges in full. Students participating in Duke-administered summer programs who leave the program after the first three days will receive a 'W' for withdrawal as determined by the faculty director. Students are responsible for notifying the faculty director of the summer program and appropriate host institution staff of their intent to withdraw from the program.

Duke students receiving summer financial aid who withdraw from a program at any point in time must resolve the implications of their actions with the Duke Office of Financial Aid.
