ICCS IN SICILY

The Intercollegiate Center for Classical Studies in Rome (ICCS) was established in 1965 by representatives of 10 American colleges and universities; the number of member institutions has now grown to over 100. It provides undergraduate students with an opportunity in Rome to study ancient history and archaeology, Greek and Latin literature, and ancient art. Many classicists currently in the field are alumni of the ICCS Rome program and look back fondly on their experience at the Centro. In response to increasing demand for the high-quality training in ancient languages, archeology and history that it has always provided, and the longstanding success and popularity of ICCS field trips to Sicily, ICCS is now offering a second classical studies program in Sicily. This program will be based at the University of Catania and administered by CET Academic Programs and Duke University. (For information on CET, see www.cetacademicprograms.com.)

The focus of ICCS Sicily, as in the original program in Rome, will be on classical languages as well as on local manifestations of history and civilization in the ancient Mediterranean world. Based at the University of Catania, in a city with a rich ancient, medieval and Baroque history, this program offers extensive local academic resources and close proximity to both the mainland and other towns on the island.
