Postcard from Abroad

Dear Global Education Office:

The Duke in Oxford summer program was the perfect opportunity to learn about Victorian literature, England, and myself all in a single, incredible summer. For six weeks, I was immersed in an intellectual tradition stretching back through centuries -- a tradition that has maintained its energy, sophistication, and stimulation in the current era. Oxford faculty introduced me to the central structure of the university's education -- the tutorial method. My highly individual and academically vigorous meetings with my tutor have given me fresh intellectual fervor and excitement to return with to Duke in the fall.

The university population of Oxford has fostered a city rich in history, culture, and art. My peers and I couldn't wait to explore more ground around New College every day. Weekends allowed us to venture out to Stratford, Bath, Avebury, and London, as well as attend famous events like the Henley Royal Regatta. At New College on Wednesdays, we heard lectures from prominent political and cultural figures in England; each challenged us to embrace a number of new perceptions and develop our intellectual curiosity.

I would recommend Oxford for any student interested in learning, growing, and having an all-around-incredible and incredibly fun time abroad. I can only hope I will have another opportunity to return to Oxford in the near future.
