Dear Global Education Office:
I took this photo in April when one of my friends was visiting Istanbul. I think that aside from being a beautiful picture, it encompasses Istanbul completely -- the place is an amazingly gorgeous setting with incredible history.
It was an amazing experience for me to wake up every day and realize that things like the Aya Sofya, a cathedral built in the 6th century which was the cornerstone of two empires, were everyday sights for me, places that I could go to any day, any time that I wanted to. I can't even describe the feeling of awe that would come over me constantly. Of course it was a learning experience, etc., you know the usual cliché things about study abroad experiences, but I think the most meaningful part for me was moments where I would be walking along, headed to class or the store or wherever, and suddenly the most amazing view would appear and I would literally stop in my tracks and say to myself, "Wow...this is a view that people travel thousands of miles to see. And I live here."
