Dear Global Education Office:
Caught and wonderfully entangled in Spain's rich history this summer, I have come to appreciate so much more about Spain's history and culture than I previously had. One particular highlight of my experience was our excursion to Asturias. Prior to visiting Asturias, I had never even heard of this region of northern Spain that seems to be the country's best-kept secret. My humble image of Spain consisted of enchanting Andalusian flamenco dancers and luscious palaces with Moorish styled arches and the Sierra Nevada mountains in the background. Not to mention, bullfighting and torreros and some gazpacho on the side. But I was so pleasantly surprised. Whether in Cabo Peñas, Oviedo, or Gijón-the captivating scenery, the rich food, the architecture, and the history of this region provided an epic backdrop for an unforgettable weekend. Whether at home or in Spain, my life has always been shaped by the inspiring experiences I have had. To say that Asturias is one of the most inspiringly beautiful places I have ever seen in the world is the understatement of the year.
