John Henkel, Assistant Professor
John Henkel is a classical philologist whose primary research interests are in Greek and Roman literature, especially Vergil, Augustan Latin poetry, and Hellenistic Greek poetry. He received his B.A. in Latin from William and Mary, his M.A. in Classics from the University of North Carolina, and will receive his Ph.D. in Classics from UNC in summer 2009. He is an ICCS alumnus from Spring 2001, and he spent 2007-08 living in Rome on a Berthe Marti Affiliated Fellowship at the American Academy in Rome. His current research focuses primarily on metapoetics, genre, and literary history in Vergil and other Augustan poets.
