Amy Russell is an British scholar of Roman history and topography. Her BA in Classics and MPhil in Roman History are from Oxford, and she holds a PhD in Ancient History and Mediterranean Archaeology from UC Berkeley. Her teaching experience at Oxford, Berkeley and in Italy includes courses in Latin, Roman Civilization, Classical Studies, and The City of Rome.
Her research focuses on the archaeology, topography, and architecture of Rome itself, and she has spent many happy trips getting to know the city, including a year as Ralegh Radford Research Scholar at the British School at Rome in 2009-10, during which she lectured in venues including the Universita degli Studi di Roma "Tor Vergata" and the Institutum Romanum Finlandiae. Currently, she is working on a monograph on the nature of public space in Republican Rome, as well as a range of other projects including forthcoming publications on the Greek historian Polybius' view of Romans and the role of oratory in Roman politics.
Her interest in Italy and its culture has been fostered not only by her classical studies, but also by her previous training as an operatic soprano and her love of food and cooking.
