APPLY NOW!
If you submitted a Duke Abroad On-line Application for spring 2008, you do not need to submit a new application. Please use the UPDATE FORM to convey your new study abroad interests. If you submitted a Duke Abroad On-Line Application for fall 2007 or summer 2007or before, please submit a NEW Duke Abroad On-Line Application. You will need to create a new log-in. ALL applicants: Please note that there may be additional items required for application to Duke-administered programs. Upon submission of the on-line application, if additional items are required, you will receive further instruction by automated email. You may also check with program representatives and program websites for clarification. DUKE student applicants only: If applying to non-Duke programs, you will still need to comply with the application instructions of the sponsoring institution. Please note that all Duke undergraduates who plan to study abroad for credit must complete the on-line application, regardless of whether target programs are Duke or non-Duke administered. GENERAL INFORMATION The Duke Abroad On-Line Application Process Completion of the Duke Abroad On-Line application is required for the following students:
NOTE: If you have already completed and submitted the on-line application, but need to change plans, please complete the Update Form. We will be in touch if additional information needs to be sent to you. NON-DUKE PROGRAMS: In addition to the Duke on-line application, Duke students applying to non-Duke programs will also need to complete the application process of the individual program providers and institutions sponsoring the programs of choice. ON-LINE PROGRAM ACCOUNT: The application form is hosted by ApplyYourself, a company used by many university admissions offices. If you already have an account with them, you do not need to create a new one (or so they say). AUTOMATIC EMAILS: Once you submit your electronic application, you will receive specific instructions by e-mail for some selected programs. These e-mail messages will not be sent until you SUBMIT the application. The e-mails you receive will most likely mention forms, as even the on-line process does not preclude the necessity of forms. You will find links to the on-line application and supplemental forms below. Please be sure to submit all materials by the advertised deadlines. **** Duke Abroad On-Line Application FAQ Do I have to complete the on-line application all at once? No, you may log in and out of the application as often as it takes for you to complete the application and hit the submit button. Please remember your login ID and password. Do I have to save each page as I complete it? It is best to save each page before going to the next page. That way, if you need to log off in a hurry or if you lose power or connection, you do not lose all of the data already entered. You are able to go back to saved pages to make corrections, but should remember to save the page again or corrections will be lost. What is my Duke student ID number? Non-Duke students will not have one at the time of application (or will not be aware of it). Duke students will find their student numbers on their transcripts. It is NOT the Duke Unique Number found on some Duke Cards and documents. Why do I have to give certain information such as GPA or parent contact information when Duke already knows it? Academic and relationship data are available on Duke's main student database, but for purposes of the study abroad application, we need to be able to present certain data in a compact way for our selection committees, as well as our staff overseas. We have tried to eliminate redundancy as much as possible in the application process, but we beg your patience for that which remains. Why are non-Duke students required to give study abroad advisor contact information? Home institutions are very interested in the health and safety of their students abroad and are often the first point of contact for parents calling to inquire about certain situations. When there is a political crisis or some other event that affects the program adversely, it is our custom to keep home institution study abroad advisors updated as to the latest information regarding the status of both the program and students. Information is never shared with home institutions on a gratuitous basis. Why do I receive so many emails when I submit my application? While we wish we did not have to bombard you with so many automatic emails, it is the best way within the system for us to customize your application process. Each email is triggered by your responses, therefore, the information contained therein should be directly applicable to your situation. If you believe that you have received an email in error, please report it as soon as possible so that we can fix the problem. If I have already submitted an on-line application for Duke Abroad once, do I need to do it again? No, once is enough per academic year. If you are changing your plans or applying for study abroad in the same academic year, you simply need to complete the Update Form and we'll be in touch with additional instructions and/or questions. Be sure to include the program, location, and desired term in your update form, though, as we need to know the basics to put you in the right place! If you completed a form for last year (including last summer), you should complete a new form unless otherwise directed by office staff. If in doubt, please contact Deborah Kearney, in the Office of Study Abroad . Last updated: 11 January 2008 |
